About Us
Womens Home Trust
The Trust was established on the 7th of September in the year 1940 with the specific needs of war widows and retired nurses who had served during the World War in mind. The Land for the activities of the trust was donated by Shri Chimanlal Maniklal Trivedi. With the passage of time, needs changed and therefore the objectives of the Trust were redefined to address issues which are the need of the hour.
The redefined objectives include educational aid, health care and a host of other socially relevant issues. India, one of the world’s two population superpowers, is undergoing unprecedented demographic changes. Increasing longevity and falling fertility have resulted in a dramatic increase in the population of adults aged 60+. The age old joint family system is being replaced by the nuclear family concept. Children often move out of their homes to larger cities or abroad thereby making the elderly vulnerable, both emotionally and physically.
We realised that there is a growing population of elderly people from the middle class as well as the upper middle class, who due to the paradigm shift in circumstances are living alone at home and the burden of running a home as well as the accompanying loneliness was telling on their mental as well as physical health.
The Trusts dream of providing a peaceful and aesthetic sanctuary with all the comforts of home along with adequate security became a reality due to the generous financial help from M L Pendse Foundation.
We, at Soham want to transform aging from a process most people worry about to a lifestyle people find happiness in.
